Hilo is a town on the wet side of the Big Island.  It is across the bay from Mauna Kea and surrounded by rainforest.  Not that many tourists from the US mainland go there, but it is a regular stop for buses full of Asians.

A few of these photos were taken at locations North of Hilo on the final leg of the trip driving back to Kona.

The small fishing village of Vernazza is probably the most characteristic of the Cinque Terre and is classified as one of the most beautiful villages in Italy. Colorful, antique homes cling to impossible cliffs. A lovely small harbor nestles under the shadows of an ancient castle and a dramatic seaside church.

The Island of Capri is one of the most picturesque and visited locations in Campania. Its breathtaking landscapes and beauty stretch from the rocky caves around the island to the edge of the horizon, and has been an inspiration to poets, lovers and travelers throughout the centuries.

Boccadasse is a small fishing village in Genoa, Italy that lies at the eastern side of the Corso Italia stroll which is the main sea front stroll. It is one of the most beautiful and romantic places in Genoa, with its old colored houses and boats lining the shore.

The landscape in the famous Val d'Orcia is extremely enchanting: everywhere you look, endless golden wheat fields, rolling hills one after the other, avenues of cypress trees along curvy country roads and isolated rural homes and farmhouses.

Manarola, built on a high rock 230ft above sea level, is one of the most charming and romantic of the Cinque Terre villages. The tiny harbor features a boat ramp, picturesque multicolored houses facing the sea, and a tiny piazza with seafood restaurants.

Walk along the Jeweled Coast of Positano, Italy at Sunset to get the real experience of the glittering city. Positano is the coast’s most picturesque and photogenic town, with steeply-stacked houses tumbling down to the sea in a cascade of sun-bleached peach, pink and terracotta colors. No less colorful are its steep streets and steps lined with wisteria-draped hotels, smart restaurants and fashionable boutiques.

We woke up at 5AM and drove in the dark all around San Quirico d'Orcia, Italy in search of the famous Belvedere farmhouse. Just before daybreak, we found the magical spot allowing us to capture this image: the epitome of picturesque Tuscan countryside.

New Zealand Landscapes Timelapse

It’s easy to forget what lies just beyond your back door step sometimes. In the last 6 months I’ve struggled to make it anywhere near the New Zealand wilderness landscapes that I just love to venture into with a few survival essentials and the usual gear – my cameras, tripods, batteries, dew straps, lenses, slider rigs, panning heads etc etc strapped to my back in search of some cool places and the angles to compose them and the light to showcase them. In the hard to reach places sometimes capturing just 20 seconds of time lapse footage takes months of waiting and a lot of planning.

When your out all alone in the remote areas the reality of life is broken down into very simple things. Staring up into the infinity of a clear star filled sky, in a half sleep state, and as the frost starts to settle, all there is to worry about is that your sleeping bag is warm enough, the fire is not going to die, the camera shutters are still going click click every 30 sec or so, that the lens heaters are stopping your lenses from fogging up – not complicated – pretty simple really – pretty easy to be happy.

Here’s some footage shot over the last little while, in Aotearoa (The Land of the Long White Cloud) – New Zealand’s North and South Islands – a special place of great beauty.
